Michael Mizrachi and family are proving to be a force at the poker tables

The Mizrachi family loves cards, especially poker. The game has kept their family close and has led to some fierce competition among family members.

They began playing poker in a home game to keep tabs on their four boys and to keep them from straying too far away from home. Michael's mother is at the center of their close knit family, and can often be seen cheering on her sons while they play in poker tournaments. You may have been hearing a lot about Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi lately, but there are a few other members of the Mizrachi family who also deserve to be mentioned.

Michael's older brother Robert, who has been playing in high stakes tournaments for years, is often seen rooting for his brother Michael in Pokerraums all over the country. Robert is quite the poker player himself with an impressive list of tournament accomplishments. On April 4, 2006, Robert finished 1st in a $1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament at the World Poker Tour Five Star World Poker Classic at Bellagio. Robert outlasted 56 other poker players to take home the first place prize of $24,880.

The very next day he participated in a $1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament at the 2006 Five Star World Poker Classic and finished 2nd out of 450 entrants. Robert had begun final table play as the 2nd short-stack with 40,000 in chips. He eventually went heads up against Anthony Reategui and was knocked out by Anthony's pocket pair of deuces. Robert made quite a comeback from his 40,000 in chips to earn a second place finish and $113,265.

Some of Robert's other tournament accomplishments include a 4th place finish in the 2005 World Series of Poker Limit Hold'em Shootout tournament. He placed 3rd in a $2,500 buy-in No Limit Hold'em event at the 2005 Five Star World Poker Classic at Bellagio. Robert even cashed in an event held in Holland in 2004, taking down first place and 372,240 Dollars for his efforts in that tournament. You should expect to hear a lot more about Robert Mizrachi in the future.

Michael's fraternal twin Eric has also been playing in poker tournaments and has proven to be a strong poker player just like his brothers. Eric participated in a $1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament at the 2006 Five Star World Poker Classic at Bellagio. He finished 25th out of 493 entrants and brought home $4,150. Eric also finished 2nd at the Winnin 'O' The Green tournament, a $1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament held at the Bicycle Casino on March 21, 2006. The winner of the tournament was a very familiar poker opponent for Eric. His brother, Michael "The Grinder" finished in 1st place, making it a one-two finish for the Mizrachi twins.

Let not leave out Michael's wife, Aidilay, who has also been cashing in poker tournaments. Her first try at high stakes tournaments was when she entered into the WPT World Poker Challenge at the Reno Hilton in 2005. She finished in 27th place and was the last female player to be eliminated.

Another tournament accomplishment was at the WPT Ladies Night III event where she finished in 2nd place against some top notch female poker players including the eventual winner, 2005 Ladies WSOP bracelet winner Jennifer Tilly.

Michael's other brother Daniel, a magician, has not yet tried his hand at the poker table but fully supports his brothers in their poker careers.

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi has proven to be the most competent poker player of the entire family. Michael was born on January 5th, 1981, and grew up in Miami Beach, Florida. He decided to start to play poker online following in the footsteps of his older brother Robert. With a nickname like "The Grinder" it's hard to imagine just how Michael plays. When most poker players think of a nickname for themselves, grinder is not typically the first to come to mind. A grinder is usually a player who finds it tough to get by and wins just enough to keep afloat. Projecting that type of image was of no concern for Michael Mizrachi.

When choosing his nickname, Michael was thinking more of his drive to win and determination to succeed when competing at the poker tables. He is known for his solid, consistent playing style. "I am a machine," he says. "I don't stop grinding." Taking a look at his recent tournament accomplishments, almost every poker player would agree that this is absolutely true.

Michael has been displaying some amazing poker skills lately and has earned a heap load of cash in addition to a WPT title along the way. In a very impressive run of tournaments recently, Michael finished 2nd in the 2006 WPT Gold Strike Main Event and followed that up by capturing the title at the 2006 WPT Borgata Winter Open Main Event. Michael earned $566,352 for his 2nd place finish at Gold Strike and then padded his bankroll with an additional $1,173,373 at the Borgata Winter Poker Open.

His win at the 2006 Borgata Winter Open was followed by yet another 2nd place finish in the 2006 WPT L.A. Poker Classic $2,500 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament. He took home $124,403 for a runner-up finish in this event. Michael's most recent cash was in the WSOP Circuit Event at Caesars Palace Las Vegas where he managed a 4th place finish out of 145 entrants and won $22,504.

In addition, Michael performed quite well at the 2006 Mirage Poker Showdown $7500 buy-in Heads Up tournament and $1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament. I'm positive you will be hearing about some more cashes from "The Grinder" in the near future. I expect him to be a strong force at the 37th Annual 2006 World Series of Poker at the Rio All-Suite Hotel Casino beginning June 25th.

The Mizrachi's have accomplished a lot of success in the poker tournament scene and it looks like they will continue to impress. With family support always close by, three brothers competing in tournaments, and "Mrs. Grinder" proving to be a formidable poker player herself, it looks like this is not the last time we will be hearing about members of the Mizrachi family.
